One Death, 53 New "Flu" Cases

• Dr. John B. Anderson, City Health Officer thinks Spokane is in good shape compared to other cities. He believes that with continued precautions a general epidemic can be avoided• The Christian Science Church through its governing board yesterday sent a letter to Dr. Anderson asking permission to resume its meetings. The communication stated that the church was engaged in the healing of the sick and that this work if continued would be of general benefit physically to the community• Dr. Anderson replied that he commended the church for its support of health regulations in the past, but stated that permission to resume meetings could not be granted at this time because of the rule closing public meetings. He emphasized that under the law the health office could not consider the character or purpose of a meeting, but prohibited all meetings no matter what their object• Reports received by the city school board say that all teachers have thus far escaped the influenza and are in readiness to respond when neededNewspaper article
